The most important aspect of buying records face to face is having the confidence to handle the vinyl, don't be afraid to take the record out of its sleeve and inspect the surface closely. Genuine record dealer won't mind you taking a good look at your potential purchase. Don't settle for second best if you are not sure about the condition of the vinyl or the sleeve looks at little worn then wait until you find a better copy.
